  • Connecticut Fireworks Legislation 2021

Just thought I would include the pyro community on this. A couple years ago we tried to get all consumer fireworks legalized here in Connecticut. Thanks to the hard work of Mike Dapkus and friends a bill made it about half way through the legislative process before losing steam.

There is now another group of folks trying again this year to get the job done and get consumer fireworks legalized here. This year it looks like testimony to the committees will be done online through Zoom etc. or through Emails so it is very easy to show your support.

If you are an importer, fundraising stand operator or you live in Connecticut please reach out to me on here, Facebook: Steve Gelineau or linkedIn: Steve Gelineau. We are looking for help on this ASAP as the session begins in two weeks.

Good Luck with this! I hope you guys make some headway on legalizing all 1.4. I've known Mike for about 12 years or so and he truly is a great guy and a perfect lobbiest for y'all!

Just wanted to give anyone following this topic an update. A bill has been proposed here in Connecticut to expand consumer fireworks allowed to include all consumer CPSC allowed devices. This was proposed by Democratic Representative Kerry Wood within the Commerce Committee. The bill is HB 6046. As of now the bill is only a rough framework but it appears the bill will be similar to a proposed bill from 2019. It looks like the bill is off to the Public Safety Committee for review. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Have you contacted people like Mike Dapkus at Stateline Fireworks who have tried to pass a bill in Ct.?

I have spoken with Mike Dapkus about this legislative session and his feelings on it. I was lucky enough to have Mike's mentorship when we tried this in Connecticut in 2019. He committed a lot of energy and time into the 2019 bill so this year he is taking more of a backseat approach, although I am sure he is paying close attention. I learned a lot from him and will be hopefully working with him again on other projects in the future.

If anyone is involved with fireworks safety or are in Connecticut, now is the time to E-mail the Connecticut Public Safety Committee. For info people can E-mail me at [email protected]

Mike is a great guy! I remember how much energy he used to get the bill through the legislative process.
Trust me, I know how tiresome and time consuming it is. I spent almost 6 years trying to get my elected officials to get a S&S bill passed in New Jersey!

            Good luck on this!
